Make use of Google search console for crawl errors- Crawl errors are not new to a website. Chances are that there are such errors in your website and is unnoticed. Experienced SEO executives check the Google Search Console on a regular basis to minimize the crawl errors. If any page gives 404 error we can request google to remove that page from crawling. Common crawl errors include
- DNS error- Failure to fetch & render a page is DNS error.
- server errors- Timeout, failed connection, connection timeout are the server errors.
- Robots.txt error – Robots.txt showing 200 or 404 error.
- 404 errors- Page not found or file not found.
Mobile Friendly Webpages to The Go- Everyone has a smartphone that has a very interactive Google app to work on. Any queries they straight away go to the Google and search their queries and get answers. That’s why website being mobile friendly is very much needed. If your website is not, you will find it difficult to rank the websites and webpages. Below are a few tech tips to improve your mobile friendliness
- Optimize & compress images for faster loading.
- Responsive web designs
- Minimize on page resources.
- Reducing size of on page elements.
- Tag page with AMP cache.
- Viewpoint meta tag in content.
Regularly check the page speed using Google’s Page Speed Insights that gives a clear-cut idea on how the webpage loads and what's lacking.
Tweak the Content Before Tweet- Make use of keyword analysis and update the content of the webpage on regular basis say once in two weeks for a best optimized site. Make use of blogs and produce quality content for the audience.
Submit Sitemaps to the search engines- Using Google search console & bing webmaster tools you can update and submit sitemaps to search engines for better crawling. Generate an XML version of sitemap using sitemap generator tool and update them in Google search console.
Enhance Internal Linking- When the webpages are internally linked to one another, it makes sure that all the pages are crawled. Such an architecture of the website helps for the visitors to spend more time on the website and hence reducing the bounce rate.
Minimize on page elements- Reducing the onpage elements like CSS, Flash can help improve the page speed of the websites. Large pages with poorly optimized content doesn’t do good. Enabling caching and compression will improve the webpage speed and hence improving the SEO.
Check for No index pages- Using free tools like Screaming Frog you can identify the webpages with noindex tags and correct them, which will otherwise result in duplicate pages and affecting the ranking. Yoast SEO plugin in Wordpress also helps the same.
Custom Crawl Rate- We can slow the crawl rate of a particular webpage by changing the settings in the older version of Google search console.
Optimize Meta Tags- Knowingly or unkowingly there may be meta descriptions or titles that are the same, which can result in duplicate content. We have to make sure that each webpage consists of unique content so that when the website is crawled it doesn’t affect our ranking.
Not every page is to be indexed- There may be pages that we don’t want to be crawled, so instead of just leaving the page as it is, it's better either to place a noindex tag, or place the URL in the Robots.txt file or delete the page (if not necessary).
So proper crawling of the website is very important and the factors to enable the proper working of the website is equally needed. Following these simple steps on a regular basis will help a great deal in ranking website.
